3tc
Lamivudine (3TC) is an essential antiretroviral medication used in the management of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection, and in certain cases, Chronic Hepatitis B (HBV). It is classified as a nucleoside analog that acts by disrupting a key process the virus needs to rapidly create new copies of itself within the body. By effectively slowing down this replication process, Lamivudine helps reduce the overall viral load and allows the immune system to recover. It is almost exclusively prescribed as a foundational component of combination therapy—a standard practice where multiple medications are taken together—to maximize efficacy and prevent the virus from becoming resistant to treatment.
